The “Volunteer Exchange Latvia” took place between October 5 and October 23 in Rīga, Ventspils, Rūjiena and Aizpute. Pairs of two randomly assigned volunteers worked together in the first city and organization in the first week, and then together in the second city and organization. The goal of the project was to promote and increase cooperation between volunteering and youth organizations within Latvia. Even though due to unforeseen events there was only one team of two volunteers that was able to complete the event within the original idea, there were a total of eight people that participated in the project by either organizing it, hosting a volunteer or going to another organization to a do project. Some of the volunteers summarized their experience in a few words:
Jakob: I realized how I enjoy Team working. And I’ll for sure keep going with the movie nights as I found interesting to discuss topics that matter.
Margarete: I liked that I had the opportunity to try so many new things in this week (making posters, making cooking video, …) Also, I felt more better with talking with Latvian youngsters, cause usually they are little bit shy about talking in English, but that week I saw that they opened up more. I think it was because we had a bigger international community there.
Aynur: This project showed to me how people who have different cultures can share creative ideas with each other and learn teamwork, exchange experiences and discover each other deeply 😉 Thanks to all of you 😉
Alina: As these are my first three weeks here, this volunteer exchange has strongly influenced my whole experience in Latvia so far. Nothing in the last three weeks would be the same without this project, so i am in general just very grateful for this opportunity 🙂 Also wouldn’t have made my first kaiserschmarrn without this project, which turned out amazing. so that’s cool!
Benedict: The volunteer exchange showed me how inspirational it is to work with different volunteers together. What kind of amazing moments we created!
Timo: I was surprised and excited to see what’s possible if 5 of us can be in the same place at the same time working for the same thing.
