Merhaba and Sveiki!
I am Seyhan from Turkey! I spent the whole year in Riga, Latvia as a volunteer thanks to the European Solidarity Corps program. I worked in Riga Municipal Children and Youth Center. This center is the home of some teenagers between 12-18.
I worked with another volunteer, my lovely friend Alyona from Russia during this period. Our main task was to motivate teenagers who live in this center, for life and make them more sociable. Besides, we organized events, activities, cultural and informative workshops, etc for them. Most of the teenagers could speak English.
I tried to learn some Latvian. We communicated in English but tried some Latvian, too. We shared great moments together!
The other part is my personal life. Not only at work but also in my own life, I had many experiences. I gained so many skills, I met with so many people, and I traveled a lot. I had many friends, all have different nationalities. I learned so many cultures and expressions that I’m still using. I tried different things that I have never tried before. And, I spent so much time in peaceful nature. Besides, I realized so many things about myself which I didn’t know and will affect the rest of my life.
Even if it may sound so basic, there were so many big experiences and memories that I will never forget. All these make me definitely a better person than before. I am so happy that I had this opportunity! Thank you to everybody, including BRF and YFU Turkey, for always supporting and welcoming me! I highly recommend everybody to have these experiences for both the world and themselves. Nobody will regret it!
PS for my lovely city and the people who I met there: We will meet again!
